Cam question???

Al,

If the cam lobe is only discolored and there's no physical damage, then
leave it like that. I mean, if the surface of the lobe is still perfectly
regular with no grooves or anything obvious to your eye, this is a cam that
is still in good shape.

I did my own 10V engine a few years ago, and what looked like a worn engine
to my eye was perfectly normal for a better trained eye (the shop that did
the finer work for me). Cam lobes were a bit strangely colored, but the
crankshaft bearings were a lot worst (copper marks in the middle, still
silvery on the sides). But to the guys in the shop, nothing worth an
emergency rebuilt: just normal wear.

Scorch marks - To me, that means the metal has been heated by a high
temperature. Like an exhaust header pipe when the mixture is too lean and
upon cool down that area appears blue/purple.
