engine break in

Hmm, only one of mine has ever used any significant oil (the V8). In fact,
the two I5's I have now use none between 5k oil changes (actually more like
8-10k, or wne I get to it). Proper break in is critical. I have several
customers that have brought brand new Audi's to me right after picking them
up, and switched to conventional for the first 5k. Generally, they follow
my recommendation for changes on the conventional, wich is change at 500mi,
1500 mi, 2500 mi, then synthetic every 5k from 5k on.

None of the customers that have followed this have any oil consumption to
speak of. I see the cars every 10k (the in between ones that Audi doesn't
cover) and at 5k from the last change, I would see if there was
consumption. None to very little, maybe 1/4 quart at most. This is several
customers with 2.0T's, a handful of 4.2's, and two 3.0T's.
