100 Avant and brakes (VAG)

Gents,
Looking at '94 100 Avant q here in western Canada. Any words of advice -
tips, points to check, etc. Leary of the auto tranny but seems like a
decent deal with 180K km (108K miles) on the odo, $2900 asking price and
service done at dealership. I've been audi-less for a few years and my
Audi-logical clock is ticking.

And then a NAC question: I have Y2K bug with 300+K km and the rear brake
discs are wearing mostly in the middle and inside with the outside edges
barely touched - wider on the left disc. Those are the ATE with the
infinite loop groove. A slight edge like this is also shaping up on the
outer edges of the front discs (no groove). And this is with all new-ish
(within last year) discs and pads. When I did the job, I checked  and made
sure the calipers' guiding pins were free and move in and out. Any ideas?
