*most* likely has the 12V 2.8 V6; - if so the engine is dog slow and usually will at some point in its life develop a blocked EGR port. R&R of the intake is the best solution to clean it out but can be done with it on the car - all the crud falls into the engine and will require a good flush afterwards. 

A Blocked or Partially Blocked EGR will present itself like this: 

* Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
* Reduced Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)
* Reduced Power Output/Engine running rough
* Increased Emissions
* may notice drivability problems such as pinging (a.k.a. pre-ignition knock) when the engine is under load or the vehicle is at higher speeds.
