Type 44 Front bumper removal?

 Hi gang,

 For the first time in 13 yrs ownership I need to remove my front bumper. My
question is how to get off the little 1/2 inch black beauty strip that sits
vertically above the bumper trims and below the headlights/indicators/grille
etc. 

  This seems to be connected with the side bumper trims. I can pry up the
center bumper trim so that they unclip from the bumper, but the side trims
are less eager and I'm afraid to force them. But they do seem to be the key
to detaching the full width strip.

  Any BTDT?
