I had my S6 timing belt done a couple of years ago by my knowledgeable and
trustworthy local independent Audi guy.  Generally they never make mistakes.
This particular job, a valve got bent during the process.  They removed the
head and did a valve job, no problem, no fighting, no charge.  The AAN motor
is obviously an interference motor, and any half wit Audi technician should
know this.  You must have run across only a quarter wit technician or
something.  I believe my cost for the timing belt, water pump, idler and
seals was under $500.  I can't believe they wer quoting you anywhere near
$2000 even including the tune up.  Better find a good local Audi guy or do
it yourself!
