[s-cars] Toluene, Race Gas, Water Injection, etc

Bruce:

I think the point was to use the Labtronics unit for controlling water
injection. The sensor pair would still show whether the intercooler was
getting hot, and minimize injection under cold conditions. Of course,
if you are running a boost pressure that would detonate when the mixture
is compressed from room temperature, then the Labtronics unit would not
be optimal.

Ideally, the water/ethanol flow would be controlled by pressure and
temperature and knock sensor output. The trick is to handle a whole
range of temperatures and pressures and spark conditions. In my 1966
Corvair (no intercooler), for example, while knocking could occur at
full boost, particularly after the heads got hot enough, knocking at
part throttle at too low an low rpm up a hill was possible. Generally,
the driver had to address these issues with his foot; for an automated
system, the complexity might be considerable.
