How higher up the motor is the leak? If it is the cam cover gasket it is a
very easy repair and a common leakage area. The gasket set is $50+/- and
takes less than 30 minutes to replace.

Subject: [s-cars] oil pan gasket help

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Just changed my 93 S4 over to Amsoil. Seemed to run much better for the
first couple hundred miles. Got home this evening and smelled oil burning.
Looked underneath to see the dreaded puddle. Thought it was the crush ring
not seated. Turns out the Amsoil must have "cleaned up" the old sludge
around the pan gasket. I guess the stories are true about changing a higher
mileage engine (102k) over to synthetic. Looking at the oil pan, I can't
tell what all would have to be taken off to change the gasket. Tried
tightening down the allen screws that I could get to with no luck. It's
leaking from the part that is higher up on the motor. Does this make sense?
How big of a repair am I looking at? Any BTDT? TIA. Brian
