Paul:  Now you understand why everyone starts thinking chipping and/or "RS2-ing" (new word) their cars:  You get used to the acceleration and/or torque and, like, any drug, you need more.  This is why there is an aftermarket industry.

On your intermittent door speaker, my guess is the speaker wire inside the rubber accordian boot has broken.  Remove the speaker to check the colour coding of the wires and then peel back the boot from one or both ends, looking for breaks in those wires.  With luck you will find the problem and be able to mend it easily.
