Having had both DSL and Cable in the states, I have to say I prefer Cable too. Then again my Telocity/Ameritech DSL connection in Livonia MI was pretty far from the exchange, which limited my rates in the 300 kbps range. However, in that location, Cable-Modem wasnt offered (only in my square-mile, damn Cable deregulation policies) After a year of that, I moved to Ann Arbor, and got cable-modem. WOW. Quite nice! I think both the DSL and Cable modems had equally unacceptable levels of service outage though.

Now here in Germany, you're pretty much forced to go back to DSL for high-speed access. To make it worse, if you want to have more than 5gb of bandwith a month (without paying more for your internet than your Audi habit), you can only get the 768 UL/128 DL package wich is adequate download speed but pathetic upload speed. "Flat Rate" internet access is a relatively new concept over here, but ends up being about 45 EUR a month for the 768/128 speed. Now we just have to convince them to offer their 1.5 Mbps service with the flat rate option, however even that only has a 192 kbps upload speed... :)

Lets just say it took several hours to upload all those videos to Freddy's website.. :)

Cheers,
Keith

DSL? Yecch, pooh! At least my ISDN line was stable. I had a cable modem for
2 years, thought I'd try DSL to see what all the hullabaloo was about. I
found it what it wasn't about...it wasn't about how it wasn't stable, how
the uploads had only a fraction of the speed of the downloads.

I went back to cable. Been on it now for almost 4 years. It's a beautiful
thing :)
