[s-cars] Looks like Haps' RAIS has some competition...

Thanks Gary, I think you are on the right track, for the ultimate
intercooler, my side to side is 3.5" wide and only really because I
wanted the cross section, but rather to reduce pressure drop thought it
not because there is much heat transfer that couldn't happen in a
narrower IC. You will also have higher flow though it, external cooling
air, front to back, at a given pressure differential, front to back.

I also get a little pissed when I get off of the track to find that only
half of my intercooler has any real heat in it. Since I will not be
doing any enduro racing with it, I suspect that an 18" long path would
be more than enough given my internal velocity, mine is 24". This would
result in less pressure drop and less weight. Of course with a top to
bottom of similar size this dimension I suspect could be as little as 6
or 8 inches.

It is possible to put a top to bottom intercooler, with 2.5" inlets and
outlets that has an 8in x 20 something x whatever core in the audi,
considering Hap and me found two different way's to get 12" of
intercooler side to side. I had paper drawings of one that sat at a
slight angle to make up for the extra .5"

Of course is it all worth it?

Thanks Mike. I'm going to be on some shrinks couch over this...

But seriously, I wasn't comparing mine to Hap's (Haps' is bigger, I
know. Where's that shrink?). The comment was my S6 ("My, that's a big
one...") compared to Pizzo's EVO ("Isn't that little thing cute..").
I've got to say that factory packaging and available mods for the STI
make it awesome (don't know about the EVO, but I bet the same), and both
it and the EVO go and turn like an Arizona Jack-rabbit. Nice to be able
to turn a key at the Dealership, and get the performance I've paid
$5,000 for. But I'm 40, and the EVO and STI look like kids cars to me,
inside and out...

Anyway, I'm looking good in the IC development. I work at Boeing
Rocketdyne, all we do is rocket engines, and there are a bunch of Rocket
Engineers (ok, 3 to be exact) helping me with my IC. From looking at
pics, Hap's IC is a few years behind. I'm basing this on the pic of
Haps IC posted at S-Cars. I made a call to Autosports works, and the
package they have developed is looking good. Key is a longitudinally
placed IC with top to bottom flow. However, I think they should have
gone with a NARROWER and longer IC (~2.25" IC vs. 3", ~24" vs. 18" for
a bigger frontal area), probably a nit, but still theirs is definitely
looking great. If Hap upgraded to that design, he is pretty current. I
can't bring myself to float the $2,000 they quoted me, so I'm going to
do it myself. I will make all my findings and designs freely available.
And speaking of Trevor Frank, he is an IC visionary. His email to me
with the pics of his IC and his admonition to go top to bottom flow wise
was accurate.

No RAIS, sorry. Great idea to reduce pressure-drop tho'. Ihis ain't BS
folks. Everybody should read this...

And a sissy-girl BPV. The BPV discussion I started had no illuminations
either. Seems that BPV preference is similar to the oil consensus.
There is none. I'm thinking of now going with the LLTEK BPV. Since
cross-consensus says none of them work anyway, I may as well get some
satisfying noise out of the thing, and it is wife adjustable. :^)

Thanks Again,
Gary Lewis
