On my VW you can choose to have the anti-theft coding active or inactive by,
I believe, pressing a specific button or buttons at the same time you turn
on the radio. You need to have the code to deactivate, of course. The Audi
radio may be the same way and a previous owner shut it off. Maybe they got
tired of trying to remember the code. I don't have my radio manual handy to
see if our radios do this as well.
