[s-cars] [A4-list] Tranny Leak

I asked this of the A4 list, but, this list is more knowledgeable...

After all of my talk and demos of Audis, a friend of mine recently
purchased an A4 1.8t/tiptronic with 80k miles.

He has a leak in the transmission. He took it to a shop and they told
him it was two of the three transmission couplings which they replaced
at something like $800 per coupling.

It still leaks.

He took it back to them and they told him (get this): the wiring
harness internal to the tranny has cracked and transmission oil is
going up the wires and dripping out. They told him a new harness is
$2k.

This all sounds like BS to me; however, I am not familiar with the
tiptronic transmission. By far, the most common tranny leak (with the
manual tranny) is the seal from the driveshaft mounting to the wheel
(I've replaced these on my S6 and 20v).

Anyone know of problems with the tiptronic and if I should be looking
for something else when I look at the tranny for him?

Cheers,
Brian
