Hey guys.
I had a little episode in the wifes car and was wondering if anyone has had
a similar... Noticed the water temp gauge was on the high side so pulled to
the roadside to check things out. I had already replaced the plastic
expansion tank once on that vehicle with one that seemed a little cheezier
from an aftermarket supplier. This one had a developed a nice split along
one of the seams. It looked like it had built enough pressure to deform the
tank before it split. Question, is it really the cheeziness of this new tank
that simply just split or, could I really have developed enough pressure to
pop the thing ?
I imagine if the thermostat sticks closed, it would cause more pressure in
the tank but wouldn't the cap release once it reaches xx lbs ?
I replaced the tank and cap with one that was in the wifes old 100csq and so
far temps look ok and no fluid loss. Just wondering if I should go for
another replacement tank or try the stealer....
Oh and, for those of you following my attempt at selling the 94 S4, I just
pulled the plug on trying to sell it. I couldn't find time to fix the wives
brakes on her 100csq and rather than dishing for a rental, and with the
shiney S4 sitting there doing nothing, decided to let her drive it. Now I
can't get her out of it. She doesn't even want to look for cars anymore. I
even heard her talking about doing a brake upgrade on it !!! I'm in BIG
trouble...
thanks,
tom.
