how to get more lift from an AAN to make it an RS2

There are a few way's to get more lift from a cam. One is to Hard face
it, this is a brazing process that is used to resurface/modify a cam to
get more lift. The material is brazed onto the surface of the cam to
build it up and allow for a different profile to be put on the cam. The
other way to do it, is to cut down the small end of the cam. Lift on a
cam is the change in, or the difference between the size of the base
circle and the size of the total lift. If you change the base circle by
making it smaller then you increase the lift. This is how most regrinds
are done, they make a smaller base circle. This also allows for more
duration. On a mechanical lifter assembly this usually means that
either you have to increase the lash cap's or adjusters on the rocker
arm's or both. On a hydraulic it can be done so that the base circle
isn't changed enough to effect the lifter's at all, since the hydraulics
adjust themselves. In more severe cases it might be possible that you
would have to put in new lash caps, on top of the valves.
In this particular modification you don't need to do anything, the
amount of material that is removed is not enough to require modification
to the valve train geometry, i.e. no lash caps. You get more lift and
more duration.
Although I would suggest that anytime you put in a new cam you do at
least the following, put in new lifters, $3 from eurospec, have the cam
straightened, my 7a's where .008 total indicated runout, and now are
.0005 TIR, and use a cam/engine lube on them.

Again ... where is that extra 1 mm lift coming from on a stock AAN Cam
... you can grind them down ... but you can't add that 1 mm lift ...
unless there is something I am missing ... the RS2 cam has a least an
additional mm at the top of the CAM lobe over a stock AAN Cam.
I don't see how this is possible to get this back ... an RS2 profile
without the 1 mm lift may be possible ... but not sure what this is
buying you.
