Rich;
Your leak is on the flex line to the fuel rail, that may be why it is so
expensive - it probably comes with the fuel rail attached.
The recall was for a different line - the flex line from the fuel filter to
the hardpipe feeding the fuel rail line (at the other end of the hardpipe
your leaking line is attached to). From your photo, it looks like your car
has had the recall done already.
The failure mode is probably the same and I would expect we'll see more of
these failures cropping up. You could report it to NHTSA, reference the
earlier recall, and see if they will extend it to these lines. In the
meantime, a used part or getting a shop to rebuild yours are cheaper
options.
Good luck! Remember, it's not wise to drive the car with a leaking high
pressure fuel line.

Fred is absolutely correct. For the S6 this part includes the fuel rail. I
understand the earlier cars had the fuel rail separate from the hose. I tried
to get Audi to cover my hose but they also wanted to do the recall on the
fuel filter hose. The prior owner had cut out the bad (failed) connectors and
replaced them with high pressure gas hose at $6 per foot. Since the repair
didn't leak and I did not care for the Audi procedure of leaving in the old line
and adding in another I passed on their repair. Rather I just cut out the bad
connectors on the other hose and put in another piece of 5/16 high pressure
fuel line. Clamp it well and it doesn't leak. BTW the failure on the
connectors it that they were not swagged properly - the "good" ones are double swagged
and do not spin.
