Rolf,

Here is a discussion on exhaust options including talk
of removing just some of the stock components.

A friend of mine removed just the rear muffler, having
an exhaust shop graft on tailpipes.  It sounded good
but didn't really have a performance impact.  The tone
was about the same as stock, but was louder.  And it
was progressive, meaning it was quite a bit louder on
boost but only a bit louder at idle.

I was planning to do that myself.  If you do try
yanking just the center resonator, please report back
your results.
