Hi all,
I know this has been covered a thousand times, but I
need some advice on what brakes to get. My brake pad
wear light just came on, so it's time to get new pads
and probably rotors.
I have a '95.5 S6 Sedan w/ 63k. Car is stock save for
Apikol SSK and HRSB (not yet installed) and chip set
(not yet installed). I don't ever intend to track this
car, but enjoy very spirited driving. I'm figuring the
car needs larger rotors, but do I go with A8 rotors,
or do I go the "Big Red" route and get Porsche rotors?
And then what pads should one use? I put Mintex on my
prior '92 S4 and was very happy with them, (noticeably
better pedal feel and braking performance over stock).
Or should I just stick with stock and get
substantially better pads?
Expense is always a factor, but I'm willing to spend
if it's worth while. However, since I'm not planning
to track the car, I probably shouldn't go gungho.
Looks are always something to consider, too.
Also, although I plan to go with a 17 or 18"
wheel/tire combo, it's not something that I will do
until the Spring, after the snow has gone. In other
words, I plan to use the 16" stock wheels during the
Winter so the brakes need to fit underneath.
Lastly, I should mention that I drive this car almost
everyday. I plan to put a much improved suspension
system in and ultimately would like to do an RS2
conversion, but that's probably still a year away. Any
advise from those of you with experience in this area
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex
