[s-cars] No heat, yet overheating...

Ok, when out to warm up the car this morning because it was freaking
cold! Let it warm and up and go back out, windows are still
frosty...huh. Look inside and the temp is really high and proceeds to
just flash the warning thingy as I'm watching it. Go out, and check,
raditor is bone cold, I have coolant. Ok, so thermostat is busted,
nope, took it all apart, got a new one, put it in, check the old one
after just to see, and it still works.
Of course NOW the little plastic cap/cover that goes over the
thermostat is chipped and leaking like a sive, so I cant test it
anyways. But I was wondering what other causes there might be for
something not open up as it should for heat. My thought is that it
could have just been a pocket of water somewhere that froze something,
but figured it would have gone away since the engine was so warm. (and
again, cant test it atm anyways!!)
Any ideas? And thanks for the help.
