[s-cars] missing boost - replacing hoses

i've still got the intermittent boost problem. sometimes
no boost, sometimes lots of boost, during the same operation
cycle (i.e. the boost seems more or less random and doesn't
seem to depend on whether i turn the car off).

after bob replaced his rubber hoses, i decided to do the
same. under the hood of my '92 S4, there is a small rubber
hose that runs from the moisture separator on the firewall
to a tee. at the tee, the hose is crimped and the connection
is able to swivel freely. the tee has two other hoses coming
out of it, which are both crimped at the tee end. one hose
goes under the black fuel rail cover and is clamped to what
looks like a fuel pressure regulator. the other hose is
clamped to a boss on the intake manifold.

the hose running from the tee to the fuel pressure regulator
has been chafing against the black cover and looks like it's
just about worn all the way through. this may be the source
of my problem. i want to replace all three hoses coming out
of the tee.

the problem is, they all have crimps at the tee end. i'd
like to cut the crimps off and install new fuel hose with
gear clamps. will this work? i've never cut into a crimped
connection before, so i'm not entirely sure what i'll find.
it seems reasonable that a hose clamp would be fine for
securing the new hose, after i cut off the crimp and remove
the old hose, but i'd like to make sure before i start
cutting something that i can't replace easily.

any thoughts? has anybody done this before?

-teddy
