[s-cars] Weather related double whammy

Don't worry about replacing the battery, the ECU will be fine. You just
have to enter the security code for the radio (and possibly the cell
phone in the armrest, if used).

There are a couple of possibilities regarding the hood release. Most
likely the hood is frozen. On my '93 S4 the hood sometimes freezes
down here in Ottawa, and a little help has to be given for it to open.

If when you pull the hood release handle under the dash the handle
springs back again, then the hood it probably just frozen a little. If
this is the case, just pull the hood release handle until you feel it
"pop", and then walk around to the front of the car, and gripping the
grill firmly pull up. Once the ice gives way that's holding it down,
the hood should lift a little and the pull tab emerge from the grill
(though you may have to pull on this also to get it extended fully).

In extreme cases you may need you SO to pull on the hood release handle
under the dash while you pull up on the grill/front of the hood at the
same time.

Now if the hood isn't frozen, and when you pull the release handle under
the dash it doesn't spring back (or feels "loose" and doesn't spring
back quickly or all the way), then the end "clip" on the cable has
probably popped off or escaped it's holding ring and you're going to
have some fun trying to get it open from under the vehicle.

Good luck!
