[s-cars] Rear Brake Calipers

Mark;

Check your cables - the problem may be in the cables, not the calipers.

If it is the calipers, the e-brake cam shafts weren't properly lubed or
sealed when the calipers were rebuilt. You can clean and lube these yourself
to restore operation. Check out
http://www.urs4.com/technical/repair/ebrake/ebrake.html for the procedure.
You may find the shafts are pitted and rusted. The rebuilders usually clean
up the old rusted shafts and put them back in. When I bought rebuilt rear
calipers for my UrS4 I popped up the shafts and sent back the ones with
pitted shafts. After 3 iterations I ended up with new Girling calipers at
the rebuilt price :) The pits in the shaft allow water to seep past the
seal, so lots of water resistant lube is required.

Subject: [s-cars] Rear Brake Calipers

Another set of bad lousy Audi rear Brake calipers on my S6. I had a few
problems with my old 5KQ and when I did my BIRA kit on my S6 I put on a
rebuilt set of rear calipers from Blau and now with only 20K on them in the
Northwest where they DO NOT use salt I already have one that is sticking.
Does anyone mod these to fix this obvious inherent problem with Audi rear
Brake calipers?
P.S. I purchased a used set of the newer Audi Aluminum rear Calipers but
haven't had enough time to compare to convert them to the rear on my car. I
did see one problem and that was in the rear brake cable not being long
enough and I believe the end that hooks to the caliper was wrong. The A4
cable with the proper end was even shorter so just using A4 cables wouldn't
work. Maybe I'll look into these some more rather than replacing with the
Cast Iron crud although I have heard some of the same stories about the
newer Audi Aluminum calipers too. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, MGH
