Arrived from ECS yesterday. All of it was straight as an arrow - no damage
from overzealous gorillas. :)
I see how to seal it so it won't rust. No problems there, with a little
black sealing silicone caulk.
What I do not see, is how to get the front trim caps back on after I get
the strips onto the doors. Will this become evident when I yank the old
strips off?
I was also thinking of laying down a thick coat of paste wax on the body
under the strip - is that worthwhile, or a waste of time?
When you install the new strips, what you need to do is slide them on until
they are about 1 inch from completely in place. Then insert the cap onto the
end of the strip. It won't install all the way because the last tab is in
the way. Just get it started, and then push the strip the remainder of the
way forward. Then to fully seat the cap in the end of the strip, I found it
easiest to shut the door, put a flat head screwdriver on the end of the cap,
and push it back into the strip the remainder of the way.
It is easier than it may look, but replacing all 4 took me about 15 minutes.
The only tool required was the screwdriver to seat the cap.
Good luck,
Dave
