[s-cars] n00b question

Tony,

Those are the instructions for resetting the instrument cluster if the
tach is reading too low due to it being set up for a 6 cylinder instead
of 5 cylinder engine. This has been an issue on a hand full of cars,
including mine.

What Mike as asking about is the service indicators that come on for the
first minute after startup. There are three different indicators. OIL,
In 1, and In 2

OIL is obvious, set for distance (miles/kilometers). In 1 is set for
both distance or time, whichever occurs first, such as a 15k mile
service, or 1 year. In 2 is set for time, usually 2 years for things
like flushing your brakes. It's all explained in the owners manual,
assuming one is in the car.

Procedure using VAG-COM.

I like to use them for what they're intended, but most folks set them
for the largest interval possible. The reminders will come on 1000 km
before they're due. I forget the time lead.

Bob
