Does the car have relayed headlights? Perhaps the PO disabled it due to a bulb out warning associated with the relays. I have a very faint/vague recollection from reading Igor's old posts on lobotomizing the check display, of there being some type of module or something under the hood. Maybe the PO just disconnected that entirely. Don't know where it is - underhood relay box maybe? Search the archives for Igor's check disply lobotomy instructions.
