$35K is out of my price range, but I'd be looking at
the Audi family -- a used AllRoad or A6 Avant, with
the concession of the automatic/tip.  For $35K you
can find a low mileage 95.5 S6 Avant for $15 and put
another $15K into new suspension, brakes, clutch,
engine... (and have an old car worth $15K :).
