As others have said, you can bypass the circuit to get you going while
you wait for the part.
As for the differences, having both an S6 and a VR6 Corrado, I can tell
you that the parts are indeed different. The difference is in the
electrical connector making them non-interchangeable without replacing
the harness connector. The pump itself is the same.
I think what you are finding is that they are selling the Audi specific
one as also usable on the VWs, though it will require a change to the
electrical harness. Then the VW specific one is a direct plug-in. Take
a look at www.bimmerparts.com and search for the auxiliary water pump
for both the S6 and Corrado. You'll find that the Corrado offers too
types. One is the same as the Audi, but requires connectors, and the
other is a straight plug-in. The VW ones are cheaper than the Audi ones
just from an economies of scale stand point. You may want to go the
reverse route and buy the VW version and change to the VW connector.
Though the VW style connector is slightly more difficult to operate, it
would be worth the $50 savings.

Notice that the models it can be used for are the same in some
instances. I don't get it. Are they just trying to charge more just
because you want it for an Audi? It isn't just ECS. It's other sites
too. It's cheaper when you search for a certain part for a VW than when
you search for the same exact part (same part # and everything) for an
Audi.
