Hey John!
First off does Wayne still have my old beast?
Okay for the track event you will need a Snell approved helmet. I
don't remember if ACNA wants to see a 95 or '00 helmet but get a new
SA helmet and you will be good to go. Skip the M rated helmet (They
are for Motorcycle use)
is it worth it for a rookie? Depends on the instructor you get.
There are a few that are good and there are a bunch that well, you
get my point... If I'm not there teaching (I may be up at Infineon
Raceway for a NASA Race) ask for Joe Stusser. I can give him a heads
up that you may request him.
Depending on the tires you might tear them up. A set of full tread
depth tires will probably chunk. You will round the shoulders of the
tires. You will be fine with street tires though.
Insurance implications, ACNA will tell you that since there are no
stopwatches allowed and it's classified as a "Drivers School" your
insurance will cover any mishaps. Unfortunately that is a question
better asked of your insurance company, Most will not cover you, some
will. You can purchase track day insurance but it is spendy. I have
"Heard" about people pranging their cars and then driving or dragging
them to a location off the track and calling it a single car accident :)
Honestly as long as you drive with a level head and don't go all red
mist either car is fine.
Quick side note, I'm doing a series with Jim Micheals, Wayne Farlow
and Steve Hirsch and you have been mentioned several times :)
Good seeing you post.
