i would say you are right, i had a high boost misfire which may have been upsetting the sensors, i have now replaced both sensors down there and still had the code as i earlier reported. However what seems to have cured the problem is the 034 efi 1.8T coil conversion, it's been fitted now for 48hrs and rigouresly tested (down to 18mpg on the trip computer ahem) not a miss at all.
