[s-cars] GT2871 installation

with the help of long bolts and a crowbar, i was able to get the
flex pipe attached to the downpipe. i even got the gasket in there.
i'm nearly done, but am now stuck on getting the 2bennett silicone intake
hose attached. it's pretty stiff and its shape doesn't quite match
the shape needed to connect to the MAF on the stock airbox and the turbo
inlet. when i attach one end to the MAF, it comes off when i try to
attach the other end to the turbo. the MAF is plastic, so i don't dare
tighten the clamp further. i couldn't get the hose onto the turbo inlet
with the MAF in place, so i took the MAF out and attached the hose to
the turbo. with the hose fully seated on the turbo inlet, there's just
a couple of inches between the other end of the hose and the airbox. not
much room to get the MAF in there. i tried to pull the hose back so i
could install the MAF, but the hose starts slipping off the turbo inlet.
have any of you installed a 2bennett silicone intake hose onto a garrett
hybrid with the stock airbox in place? and with the stock intake plumbing?
the MAF seems to stick out more than the turbo inlet, but the 2bennett
hose is also longer at the MAF end than at the turbo end (it needs to be
the other way around).
i also tried to push both ends of the hose into place at the same time,
but that didn't work either. the 2bennett hose moves the nipple for the
WGFV to the front (why the h3ll did they do that???) and it interferes
with the intake snorkel, making it difficult to get the intake hose into
position.
i'm thinking about switching to a conical air filter, but i'm not sure about
doing that, for a couple of reasons:
1. i think it's better to stick with the stock intake and get cool air
from outside the car instead of using underhood air.
2. i already modified the stock heat shield and added thermotec to clear
the turbo, and cut up my hands working the air filter and airbox cover
into place. i have blood invested in this.
