at the shop the other day I got called out cause my exhaust smells like  oil, at idle if revved I got puff of smoke out tails.  add about a  quart nearly 2000 miles of mobil 5/w30 - 10/w40 etc.  I understand  its easier to just keep it topped up but is any damage being done to  pistons or anything?  how difficult / long a job is it to  replace  valve seals?  will  a compression test tell me  any info?  how do you do a compression test?
