Folks,
two more considerations against Aluminium in the bracket application:
1. Aluminium "flows", steel doesn't
2. Any aircraft will get retired after a certain number of flown hours. 
Simply put, rivets don't hold it together too well after some time due 
to fatigue, manifested in Aluminium flow and cracking.
