That's going to be Audi's problem. The performance enthusiasts whom wait for
the Future Audi Deals on Past Cars (and profits) and the fact that the cars
price points aren't too competitive for everyone else.
Now, many ARE interested in refinement (heck, refinement, to a lesser degree
is how Taka ended up with an STi vs. the Evo) with their performance, and
I'd venture a guess that more of the general marketplace is MORE interested
in refinement than performance (like the BMW 335i is probably all the
performance that they need, and it undercuts the cost of the RS4 AND has a
Bimmer Badge vs the 4 rings. Lot of weight in the world's largest car
market). Can't picture too many cross shopping the Evo MR or even the STi
Ltd and the RS4 or future 335xi. BUT if the Bimmer undercuts the Audi, I
can't see too many $$$'s going Audi's way.
And I don't think we can compare the market of 10 years ago to today. It's
simply a different world.
As for me, I'd consider a used RS4 .... 10 years from now. It's soooo not in
my budget.
