Better yet use the tool actually desinged for this that wont cut the hose
ever.

You can get them at most automotive places or online if there no harbor
freight in your area.
Or if you can have somebody help you you can simply hold the ends of the
hoses above the expansion tank and you won't loose any coolant except whats
trapped in the pump.
