Tim: When you go to replace your pump (or slip in a temporary bypass
pipe), you can do it without draining the radiator if you have two
needle nose ViseGrip pliers. Adjust the jaws of the pliers to have
enough room to clamp the hoses tight but not cut through the rubber
(you'll figure it out). Then clamp the pump inlet and outlet hoses just
enough away from the pump to allow you to remove the clamps. Remove the
electrical connection, the clamps, and the pump (you will lose a tiny
bit of coolant). Install the new pump, tighten the clamps (may need new
clamps), and install the electrical connector. Remove ViseGrips. Top up
fluid (with 50/50 mixture of VAG antifreeze and water).
Good to go.
