[s-cars] AUDI S8 QUATTRO FS- Maine

I've been seriously looking for a 2002 S6 - is there really an advantage with the S8?
<< totsally different car; S 8 has the all aluminum chassis so it's not as heavy as one would think. i wonder if the cars without the sport seats are also built with a less agressive spring set.

Seems the S6 would be lighter, << not lighter>>
same engine, trans, etc. One might think but the S8 is tuned decidely differently; if I'm correct, Audi owned Cosworth at that point and I believe both the S 6 and S8's are Cosworth tuned (cylinder heads and intake maifold). There is no doubt that they are geared differently as well. RPM ranges, torque curves, etc. the S8 seems to be longer legged as well. the S9 will give you 24-25 mpg hiway. TMost S 6's are in the teens
.
20hp less really does not mean that much<< Drive each car back to back and you see the difference in the way the drive. We just sold our 03 S 6 Avant to a customer; it took him a week to decide between the S 6 and the S8. Practical usage dictated the S 6 Avant; Everything else said S 8, no question.

I drove an S8 yesterday - 2003 - 25K miles. Not happy with the seats - no support. Torque is intoxicating, but I missed the boost kick. No way it handles as well as my urS6 - but very impressive for a big car. I've been seriously looking for a 2002 S6 - is there really an advantage with the S8? Seems the S6 would be lighter, same engine, trans, etc. 20hp less really does not mean that much, especially since I would chip it anyway.

Our local dealer just took in an RS6, sold immediately for - $60K - I guess I will have to wait a long time for one of these...

Well OK, but now that makes me feel stupid for letting that beauty go for
    $19K yesterday :)

But what about the transmissions? Last time I really looked at these cars
(couple years ago, and it was an A8 actually) it seemed like people were
    having problems?
