Truck transmission in the 930 makes it tough to really whack it effortlessly
(oxymoron). The Infinity can put the 6speeds to the ground pretty well, and
has one of the slickest shifters in the game. The G35 comes in at a
published 6 second 60 time. The 350z comes in less than that. I suspect that
Paulies rolling high speed dance was with a G35 in the right gear. WRT the urq,
with a light flywheel and 2800lbs and 18psi on the 10vt motor, it will hold
it's own vs a 930 that's not at 100% full boil. And it's not a bigger turbo
that does all this, it's a better matched turbo to 2.1L 10vt, smaller actually
- stock k24, with the euro head and cam. I don't dump the clutch either,
don't need to. Will I beat one consistently? Nope, but the first couple times
I sure do.... And I thoroughly enjoy making P car drivers work their cars
hard. And after driving the k27 930's several times, it really needs to come
on to the boost before it will take a stock 2.5 legacy sedan automatic.
I usually pick my battles well, but the urq with some minor tweeks does much
better than one might expect of that old CIS. The STI is a fun car, it's
just not my thing. I enjoy the Evo MR much better, though as a daily driver,
even Pizzo doesn't do that.
Taka, I'm not sure how long the 83 will be in my stable, but you really
should give it a ride. It's fun, and can be made a fine handling grand touring
coupe with minor upgrades IMO/E. Even Dave Hackl, Mr. Porsche himself (79 930
and 75 911S), has 3.5 urq's (1 as a DD) for a reason.

More like 20% advantage to the 930.
Sorry Scotty, 350Zs and G35s are not that fast. I've pissed off several 350Z
owners because they couldn't lose my '91 200q. G35 drivers think they have a
fast car. That's one of the reasons why I bought the STi over the G35 or
350Z- they just don't have power- I've not come across a G35 or 350Z that
can take the STi from a roll, even though the supposed power to weight
ratios are much closer between those two cars.
I don't know what the G35 puts down at the wheels, but it's been noted
several times that it seems like those VQ horses are smaller than average
horses.
:-)
You're not giving a 930 a hard time in an UrQ from a roll unless you're much
lighter than 2600 lbs. or you're running aftermarket fuel injection and
larger turbo or a 20vt. Off the line, sure- just have a strong enough clutch
and dump it at high rpm.
