[s-cars] a/c compressor clutch

I'm working on a '97 S6 that has been hit in the front
and I noticed that after I removed the serpentine belt
the a/c compressor clutch seems to be engaged (the compressor
pumps when turning the pulley); with all the wires disconnected.

Does this mean that the clutch was likely damaged when the
car was smashed?
I don't see any physical marks or damage, but I can't think
of any other reason.

2nd part: Why are there 2 wires (plus a 3rd, separate ground
wire) going to the a/c clutch?

Thanks,
Chip
