Yeah, Tokyo's idea of mass transit may be a little extreme for most of us in
this country with the hired hands to literally push people into the trains
so they can fit mroe people in.....I don't know if I like my transit THAT
massive :)

Tokyo is like that as well- you can actually get a RFID enabled cellphone
and "load" money, just wave your phone at the gate and it will let you in,
wave on the way out and it calculates the appropriate fare deduction.
Subway and trains pretty much allow you to get anywhere, although sometimes
it can require several transfers between lines.
Driving is pretty much impossible in Tokyo, anyway- it would take you
forever to get anywhere. The ironic thing is, when you're traveling, it's
impossible to carry a lot of luggage on mass transit, so you need to take a
taxi from the major station to your destination unless you like lugging a
bunch of bags up and down stairs and trying to get through a huge mass of
people everywhere, which also doesn't really work.
