[s-cars] Sciroccos and Audis

Scary. My first of six Sciroccos was a rare '78 S that I painted Guards
Red. Not real fast, but great seats, lots of room and good handling.
While I never did deliver pizzas, I'm sure that I brought a few home in
that car. Along with the Sciroccos I had a '76 Rabbit that I converted
to a Euro like GTI, with '84 GTI suspension, flares and brakes, 1.8 with
Weber carb and header, short shifted 5 speed, 15" ATS wheels with
195/50 Pirellis and Scirocco S Recaros and instruments. Even though it
only had 140hp or so, it was a lot of fun with only 1800 lbs or so.
Built for about $2k. The others were two '79s, on '80 automatic (owned
for two weeks and sold), an '82 and a loaded '84. Never did get a 16V.

Then in '89 I picked up an '86 5ks for $4500 at the height of the
"unintended acceleration" scare. Its been all Audi since, with the
exception of an '84 GTI that I bought in '95 and soon sold to buy my ur
quattro. While I had hoped the ur quattro would be the ultimate
combination of the tossability of the GTI with the power and traction of
my 5ktq, the extra 1000lbs takes the edge off of the handling.

Stunning... I delivered pizzas in a Mars Red 80 S myself in the mid 80s.
Mine was a fun little ride, and one of many VWs I owned.
