The most important variable Bob lists is the tool kit and spares.
The weight
penalty must be very small, but leave them at home and you may not
complete
the trip. MPG is only relevant for a completed trip, much the same
as being
accident free for the first half.
The weight penalty of the wife and kids tends to increase fuel
mileage IME. :-)
