Paul,
The procedure for dumping codes is on Scott Mockrey's website.  Dave I think just answered your question, and I'd have to believe him since you got a check engine light.  When I had these same EXACT symptoms, minus the light, it was the fuel pump.

Good luck.  That's got to be the most frustrating thing in the world. I had to have my car flat-bedded home two times because of it.
