We ran into something similar...my wife's car ('96 A6 avant)
seemed to be in dealer inventory for 4 or 5 months. It was a 3
year old car at the time, which was weird...most dealers wouldn't
keep a used car that long. They'd wholesale it off the lot.

That was 125,000 miles ago. It's been a good car for us, even
thought the pearl metallic finish seems to be a magnet for other
vehicles. My wife was just sideswiped earlier this week in heavy
slow rush hour traffic on Route 95 in Boston. I'm hoping they
don't total the car...the damage is light enough that it's
*almost* not worth fixing, except that the car is a creampuff.

Both driver side doors are very lightly creased and the rear wheel
arch is scraped. My body shop gave us an estimate of $2K to R&R
everything and blend in the pearl paint. The other guy's insurance
should cover it...but that's probably half the value of the car!

This is a trusted, quality body shop by the way. Anchor Auto Body
in Woburn. One of the principals, Billy, is a favorite of the
local Audi crowd...he's done work for me three times before, only
once paid for by insurance.
