[s-cars] voltage regulator

On my late-build '95 S6 there were two wires connecting to the back of the
alternator: the larger charge line to the battery and switched +12 from the
ignition switch. You must disconnect these wires before removing the black
cover from the back of the alternator. YOU SHOULD DISCONNECT the battery
before detaching these wires; otherwise if the charge line touches ground
you will have an electrical fire on your hands.

(Not having my radio code handy, but not wanting to risk burning up my car,
I connected a small 12V battery (borrowed from my cordless weed wacker) to
the jump-start post, then disconnected the car battery under the back seat.
The small battery kept the radio from going into safe mode, but wouldn't put
out enough amps to cause a fire if the charge line did get shorted.)

One you have the two wires disconnected, there are three Phillips head
screws on the back of the alternator that need to be removed. There are
also three snap-on tabs around the perimeter the black plastic cover--easy
to disengage with a large flat blade screwdriver.

One you get the black cover off, you will see there are two Phillips screws
holding the regulator assembly in place. You should be able to replace it
with the alternator in the car.
