[s-cars] 90k service (timing belt)?

Agreed. I have an excellent mechanic (actually the shop foreman for the dealer that does it for me on the side) that did major stuff like that on the allroad and will do the same on the Q7, but when I posed the idea of doing a TB/WP on an AAN he admitted that he'd never done one and had never been trained on one. Maybe when Audi brings 5Cyl engines back there'll be relevant training (or at least some similarity)... But I doubt it. Fortunately Cody Forbes is within reach, as is a factory-trained Audi Master Technician from the era that works at the Porsche dealer here, and also has a lift at his home where he actually ENJOYS doing stuff like this on 5 cylinders like ours. If I had the tools, which I should probably buy seeing as how I have 2 7A's and an AAN, i'd have no issue with doing it myself. It was fairly straightforward on the AEB 1.8T.

Alex,
The belt manufacturers were recommending 60K or 5 years in the time
frame these cars were built. I see no indication that belt quality
has improved,
so I stick with that. Audi has vacillated on the issue. Newer
vehicles with improved lubrication and thin oil may produce less
stress on the belt and
warrant the higher change mileage.
If I had 96K on my belt I would change it before I drove it. I would
make sure that whoever does the work knows what they are doing. This
is no longer
an item that most dealers do best. With list guidance, rental tools,
and Bentley, it can be a DIY job.
