[s-cars] HID headlight ballast - Plus more?

Hey, Cheezy, I've had good success with Chinese knock-off replacement 
kits off'n eBay.  These are designed to replace the OEM bits'n'pieces 
of ordinary halogen lights.  I haven't had them on the car long 
enough to be able to testify to their longevity but the ~$40 USD 
makes 'em eminently affordable.

Now, along these lines, the regular knock-off lights are 35 watt 
units.  In the interest of a little bit deeper "watters" does anyone 
know anything about the 50-55 watt units seen recently.  Can the bulb 
from a 35 watt unit work w/ a 55 watt ballast or is it necessary (as 
I would guess) to go whole hog?
