JC,
Good luck with this project. My paint is crap as well and I have
thought about going the semi-matte route but that's as far as I have
gotten--thinking.
I'd be interested in knowing how it turns out.
Here's an interesting link:

OK Heresy time: I've been tossing around the idea of doing a home
spray job
using Raptor PU bedliner - aka like Rhino-liner but you can
apparently make
it smoother texture than the very rough no-skid Rhino.
Yes yes I can hear the screams already... I know it sounds ghetto but
you
haven't seen how crap my paint is now... Trust me I've got very
little to
lose on giving it a shot. And some of the well done raptor-spray cars
look
really pretty good, plus its mega durable vs. stone chips, parking lot
dings, etc.
Trick obviously would be if it can be pulled off without looking too
cheezy.
Not the least being in my case trying to tint as close to OEM Emerald as
possible, lay it down as thin as possible, and ensure as much of a
satin/matte finish as possible instead of rough-bedliner texture which I
DON'T want. Oh and a good place to do it... I seem to have misplaced my
full spray booth, but I was thinking about tossing up one of those
instant-tent-garages, a number of my old boatyards use those for instant
spray/fiberglass booths...
