Good point Taka - there are aftermarket hardened followers, although
some argue that the factory fix/parts is also now hardened and solves
the problem. Another well known FSI problem is the PITA PCV system
which is overly complex and clogs up and stops working properly. There
are arguments about which VAG revision of the PCV part you want to
replace with for best performance ("G" rev, "H" rev etc.) , or, the
aftermarket has "F-it PCV is too complicated" catch-can systems, or, one
or two vendors have actual functioning aftermarket PCV options. If
performance is weak but otherwise all is well that's worth a look -
sometimes PCV makes funny noises too on its way out.
Yes we also have an FSI in the family - great motor when it runs well
but a few things to watch out for. Wish I could justify the APR
chiptune on the wife's A3 but it'd be money out of my own car budget so
sadly ain't gonna happen... (but man that thing must be a blast w/ 300
torques)
