Remove the plate that holds the coil packs. Do not unbolt the coil packs  
from this plate. Remove the plug boot from each coil pack and check the  
resistance between the center terminal of the coil and the plate. A shorted  
coil pack will show very low resistance (almost zero ohms).

I would recommend SJMAutotechnik as a good parts supplier. The owner is a  
longtime supporter of the Audi community.
