Agreed. Cam position sensor does not typically cause the engine to cut out. It just keeps it from firing once it is off.
Sounds like ignition switch to me. No matter how new or old it is, that's where I would start.

If it's as simple as that, just don't let this freak in your car anymore,
no?

Either way, with no empirical basis other than experience, it doesn't sound
like a cam sensor issue so I am curious about why you think it is.
Particular code(s)?

The engine starts and runs great from a cold start and will go essentially
forever or so it seems. Until, that is, I pick up one particular friend
and then (maybe 500 yards later) the GD engine cuts out for 3 or 4
revolutions. Then it fires right up again - usually without requiring the
starter. Later in that same trip it might or might not do it again. I
then take my friend home and drive on home with absolutly no further
problems. It seems only to happen when I have this one passenger. And no
others. <Quizzical expression> <????> Gremlins?

bob,
what sort of intermittent cut-out are your referring to...?

remember when I borrowed a spare ECU from you I was chasing the same
thing (on a stock engine) and it turned out to be my ECU. Speculation has
it the coil drivers go bad... I bought a used one from a 95 S6 and it cured
my ill.

If you need to replace the cps the generic one that you splice and mount
(BBHME301, the subject of multiple group buys) is available from
bbautomacao.com

not sure what just one costs but they'll sell you 100 for $690..

I'm tracing down an intermittent engine cut-out (RS2ed urS6 AAN
engine with big boost). I suspect the cam position sensor. Where is
a good place to purchase same (since SJM is apparently NLA)? I
didn't find the part listed at AutohausAZ.com.
